Former U.S. Ambassador to Egypt and Israel offers sound advice for U.S. policy.
Daniel Kurtzer, Jewish former U.S. Ambassador to Egypt and Israel offers sound advice for U.S. policy. Writing in Bloomberg Businessweek February 28, 2011, Ambassador Kurtzer reflects objectively and critically on how U.S. policies in the region, including massive miltary aid to dictatorial Arab governments, have been perceived by people in Egypt and elswehere. He accurately describes the very limited U.S. assets in the currrent situation and wisely cautions against any assertive U.S. initiatives, except one. "There is one set of U.S. policies that would positively impact on developments in Egypt and elsewhere and draw the collective breath of the Arab streeet, a determined, pro-active, aggressive effort to achieve a breakthrough in Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations." American Jewish, Christian and Muslim national religious leaders involved in NILI are united in calling for that kind of active, fair, firm and urgent U.S. leadership, in coordination with the Quartet, for Arab-Israeli-Palestinian peace. I suggest you forward Ambassador Kurtzer's article to your Senators and Representative, with a note from you.
